This project involved the creation of a new build and extension to an established wedding venue located in East Riding, positioned adjacent to a Grade II listed farmhouse. Given the historical significance of the surrounding structures, the design required a sensitive and thoughtful approach, ensuring that the new additions harmonised with the existing heritage context while introducing a fresh, contemporary aesthetic.
The design opted for a modern architectural language that stands in clear contrast to the traditional farm buildings, highlighting the distinction between the old and new elements. The choice of dark timber cladding for the new build was influenced by the agricultural vernacular of the surrounding area, creating a cohesive connection to the site’s rural heritage while ensuring the contemporary design stood out as a distinct yet respectful addition.
The development introduced new onsite accommodation for wedding guests, including a luxurious bridal suite, designed to provide a comfortable and elegant space for special occasions. In addition, the venue itself was enhanced with a new bar and terrace, offering stunning views over the picturesque pond and surrounding landscaped gardens. These spaces were crafted to elevate the experience of both the guests and the venue, offering a seamless integration of modern amenities with the natural beauty of the location.
The design thoughtfully considered both the functional needs of the venue and the aesthetic relationship between the new build and the listed farmhouse, ensuring that each element contributed to a cohesive and visually compelling environment. Through this careful balance of contemporary design and respect for the heritage context, the project not only enhances the venue’s offerings but also preserves and celebrates the historical significance of the site.
