Ely

Ely Care Home is a new-build 67-bed facility designed for ExcelCare in collaboration with Guildmore, set within an idyllic location beside Ely Sailing Lake and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Surrounded by woodland with expansive views across a boating lake, the design represents a distinctive piece of contemporary architecture which responds carefully to its exceptional natural setting.

The building’s scale is deliberately domestic in character. Arranged as a part single-storey, part two-storey development, the care home is positioned to maximise views and daylight, with landscaped gardens strengthening the relationship between building and landscape.

A contextual material palette of buff brick, vertical timber-effect cladding and zinc-clad dormers references local architectural traditions through a modern lens. Generous window openings bring light into day spaces and bedrooms. The result is a distinctive, modern care home that sits comfortably within its rural setting and provides and exemplary, sustainable and comfortable environment for its residents.
